Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

About the Role

Our client is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to support students within a mainstream primary school in Southampton . This vital role involves providing one-to-one or small group support to pupils with diverse learning needs, helping them to access the curriculum and thrive in a classroom setting. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to create an inclusive environment where every child can reach their full potential. If you are patient, empathetic, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with additional needs, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide tailored academic and pastoral support to pupils with SEN , both individually and in small groups.
• Assist teachers in preparing learning materials and adapting resources to meet specific pupil needs.
• Implement agreed intervention strategies and behaviour management plans.
• Support pupils' social and emotional development, fostering positive peer relationships.
• Accurately record and report on pupil progress and behaviour to the class teacher and SENCO.
• Assist with classroom routines, including supervision during breaks and lunchtimes.

Requirements

• Previous experience working with children, preferably in a school setting or with individuals with SEN .
• A good understanding of various Special Educational Needs and learning disabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting learners.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
• Basic IT skills and willingness to learn new systems.
