Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to support students with diverse learning needs at a primary school in Edinburgh . You will work closely with teachers and SEN coordinators to provide tailored support, both within the classroom and in small group settings, ensuring all students have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. This role is vital in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, requiring patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to addressing individual student requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with SEN, as directed by the class teacher and SENCO.
• Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
• Help students to access the curriculum and participate fully in all school activities.
• Support the physical, emotional, and social development of students, fostering independence and self-esteem.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with the teaching team and parents in Edinburgh .

Requirements

• Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or SEN setting.
• Understanding of SEN, including common learning difficulties and disabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting children's learning.
• Relevant qualifications or training in supporting SEN are desirable.
