Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

About the Role

Our client is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to support pupils with diverse learning needs in Sunderland . You will work closely with teachers to provide tailored assistance in the classroom, helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their academic and personal goals. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about inclusive education and making a tangible difference in the lives of children requiring additional support.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEN, implementing specific learning programmes.
• Assist teachers in planning and preparing differentiated learning materials and activities.
• Monitor pupil progress, behaviour, and engagement, providing feedback to the teacher and contributing to Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Support pupils' social and emotional development, promoting positive interactions and behaviour management strategies.
• Help maintain a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment, assisting with classroom routines and supervision.

Requirements

• Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting or with SEN.
• A good understanding of various Special Educational Needs and learning difficulties.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support vulnerable learners.
• Basic IT literacy and willingness to undertake relevant training.
