Specialty Chemicals Process Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a creative and hands-on Specialty Chemicals Process Engineer to join their manufacturing team in Bristol . This role is central to the development, scale-up, and continuous improvement of processes for high-value specialty chemicals. You will work closely with R&D chemists and plant operators to translate laboratory innovations into safe, efficient, and reliable production methods. This position requires a strong understanding of chemical processes, reaction engineering, and a commitment to quality and safety in a manufacturing environment. You will be instrumental in bringing novel chemical products to market.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical processes for the production of specialty chemicals, focusing on yield, purity, and cost-effectiveness.
• Manage the scale-up of new chemical processes from laboratory to pilot and commercial plant scales.
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety measures to ensure safe operations.
• Troubleshoot process deviations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with analytical and quality control teams to ensure product specifications are met.
• Prepare detailed process documentation, including P&IDs, SOPs, and batch records.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related technical field.
• 3-5 years of experience in process engineering, particularly within the specialty chemicals sector.
• Familiarity with batch and continuous processing, reaction engineering, and separation technologies.
• Experience with process safety assessments and hazard identification.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
