Sports Development Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and community-focused Sports Development Officer to drive participation and engagement in sports across Portsmouth . This role involves designing, implementing, and managing a range of initiatives aimed at increasing sports participation for all ages and abilities, with a particular focus on underserved communities. You will work collaboratively with local schools, clubs, community groups, and governing bodies to develop sustainable sports programs and create opportunities for people to get involved in physical activity. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sport, excellent project management skills, and a strong understanding of sports development principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver strategic plans to increase sports participation in line with local and national objectives.
• Organise and manage community sports events, festivals, and outreach programs.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including sports clubs, schools, and local authorities.
• Seek funding opportunities and manage project budgets to support sports development initiatives.
• Promote a culture of inclusion and diversity in sports participation.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of sports development programs, reporting on outcomes and recommendations.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Sports Development, Sports Management, or a related field.
• Experience in project management and delivering community-based sports programs.
• Strong understanding of sports development principles and best practices.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of partners and stakeholders.
