Substation Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly competent Substation Engineer to join their expanding team, working remotely across the UK with occasional travel to sites, including Liverpool, Merseyside . This role is critical for the design, development, and maintenance of electrical substations, ensuring the reliable transmission and distribution of power. You will be involved in all stages of substation projects, from conceptual design and feasibility studies through to detailed engineering, procurement, and construction supervision. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to contribute to major energy infrastructure projects from a flexible, remote working base.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify electrical equipment for high-voltage substations, including transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and general arrangement drawings for substations.
• Perform site assessments and feasibility studies for new substation projects and upgrades.
• Manage the procurement process for substation equipment and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
• Oversee construction and commissioning activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
• Conduct technical reviews and provide expert advice on substation design and operation standards.

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in the design and engineering of electrical substations (up to 132kV or higher).
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment, protection systems, and power system studies.
• Proficiency with substation design software and CAD tools.
• Familiarity with relevant national and international standards (e.g., IEC, BS).
• Excellent project management and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.
