Subsurface Data Scientist - Remote Analytics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly analytical Subsurface Data Scientist to join their remote team, contributing significantly to their operations within the oil and gas industry . This role focuses on extracting actionable insights from complex subsurface datasets using advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and data mining techniques. You will collaborate virtually with geoscientists, engineers, and other data professionals to drive data-informed decision-making, improve exploration success rates, and optimize production. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement machine learning models for predicting reservoir properties, well performance, and geological hazards.
• Analyze large, diverse subsurface datasets (seismic, well logs, production data) to identify trends and patterns.
• Build data visualization tools and dashboards to communicate complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with domain experts to define data science problems and develop tailored solutions.
• Design and execute A/B tests and other experiments to validate hypotheses and measure impact.
• Contribute to the development of the company's data infrastructure and best practices for data science workflows in a remote setting.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
• Proven experience (5+ years) as a Data Scientist , with a strong background in applying data science to subsurface challenges in the oil and gas sector .
• Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R, and relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience with big data technologies and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in an independent, remote work environment.
