Year 1 Teaching Assistant – Newport
Location: Newport Position: Teaching Assistant Phase: Primary – Year 1 Employment Type: Temporary, through Teaching Personnel Start Date: ASAP
Teaching Personnel are currently looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 class within a busy and vibrant primary school in Newport.
The school is looking for someone who is confident supporting pupils with their early literacy and numeracy development, while also being creative, energetic and willing to get involved in all aspects of classroom life.
The Role
The successful Teaching Assistant will work closely with the class teacher to support pupils across the Year 1 curriculum. You will provide targeted support with basic skills, including:
Supporting phonics and early reading development. Leading and supporting focused literacy and numeracy groups. Supporting early maths using practical resources such as Numicon, bead strings, place value boards and cards. Developing pupils' oral language and communication skills. Setting up and supporting enhanced learning provision. Supporting activities including block play, creative activities, role play, woodwork, clay, basic sewing and cooking. Supporting outdoor learning activities. Helping to prepare classroom resources and contribute to planning. Maintaining a clean, organised and engaging learning environment. The Ideal Candidate
The school would particularly welcome candidates who:
Have previous experience working with pupils in a primary or early years setting. Have a strong understanding of phonics, early reading and early mathematical development. Have excellent oral language and communication skills. Are confident supporting small focus groups and individual pupils. Are creative, energetic and enthusiastic about working with young children. Are happy to get involved in practical and creative learning activities. Have experience or training in Intensive Interaction, COMIT or speech and language development (desirable). Can work effectively as part of a busy classroom team. Are proactive and willing to contribute to all aspects of school life. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
