Technical Director - Animation

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Director for their animation studio located in Stoke-on-Trent . You will be instrumental in overseeing the technical pipeline and ensuring the efficient and high-quality execution of animated projects. This role requires a deep understanding of animation software, rendering technologies, and pipeline management, coupled with strong leadership and problem-solving abilities. You will collaborate closely with creative and production teams to implement innovative technical solutions, optimize workflows, and maintain the integrity of the animation process from pre-production through to final delivery, driving technical excellence and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the technical aspects of the animation pipeline, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows.
• Develop, implement, and maintain tools and scripts to automate tasks and improve productivity.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to software, hardware, and pipeline integration.
• Collaborate with department leads to define technical requirements and best practices.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and industry advancements, recommending and integrating them where appropriate.
• Provide technical leadership and support to the animation and rendering teams.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Technical Director or in a senior technical role within the animation or VFX industry.
• Strong proficiency in industry-standard animation software (e.g., Maya, Houdini) and rendering engines.
• Expertise in scripting languages such as Python, MEL, or equivalent.
• Excellent understanding of 3D animation pipelines, rendering, and asset management.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
