Do you understand how to turn customer requirements into realistic manufacturing plans? Are you confident reading engineering drawings, understanding manufacturing processes and working across production, purchasing and technical teams?
We are recruiting for an experienced Technical Planner to join a well-established manufacturing business in Willenhall. This is a varied role combining production planning, technical manufacturing and process planning, making it ideal for someone who understands both the technical and commercial pressures involved in getting customer orders through production and delivered on time.

The Role
You will be responsible for planning and scheduling customer orders through the manufacturing process, ensuring production plans are achievable and aligned with available capacity, materials, tooling and subcontract resources. You will also play a key technical role, reviewing drawings and specifications and establishing the correct manufacturing route for each job.
The role will involve working closely with Production, Purchasing, Sales, Customer Service and Technical teams, identifying potential issues early and adjusting plans where priorities or production requirements change.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and schedule customer orders through the manufacturing process to meet agreed delivery dates. Review production requirements and establish suitable manufacturing routes and sequences. Balance customer requirements against machine capacity, labour, tooling, materials and subcontract resources. Monitor production progress and identify potential delays or capacity constraints. Re-plan production where priorities, materials or manufacturing requirements change. Develop and maintain manufacturing routes and process plans. Review customer drawings, specifications, standards and technical requirements. Interpret engineering drawings, including tolerances, threads, surface finishes and other technical requirements. Determine appropriate manufacturing processes, including machining, hot forging, thread rolling, grinding, heat treatment, plating/coating and inspection. Identify tooling, dies, gauges, fixtures and specialist equipment required. Ensure accurate technical information is captured within the company's ERP system. Liaise with Purchasing to ensure materials and subcontract processes are available when required. Coordinate external processes such as heat treatment, plating, coating, grinding and specialist inspection. Work with Sales and Customer Service to establish realistic production and delivery dates. Identify and communicate potential delivery risks and support recovery plans. Support technical reviews of enquiries and new customer orders. Skills / Experience required:
The successful candidate will have experience within a manufacturing planning, production planning, technical planning or similar engineering/manufacturing environment.
You will ideally have:
Previous experience in production or manufacturing planning. A strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production planning. The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. Experience using an ERP, MRP or production planning system. Strong organisational and prioritisation skills. The ability to manage multiple orders and competing priorities. Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach. A good understanding of manufacturing lead times and subcontract processes. Desirable: Experience within fastener manufacturing would be highly advantageous, particularly knowledge of:
