Trainee Kitchen & Interior Design Assistant

Are you organised, creative and interested in building a career in kitchen, bedroom and bathroom design? Whether you have experience in administration or customer service, or you're starting your career and looking for an exciting opportunity to learn, this could be the perfect next step.

Counter Interiors is looking for a Trainee Kitchen & Interior Design Assistant to join our growing team in York.

We're a family-run, independent kitchen, bedroom and bathroom specialist, with a 3,200 sq ft showroom and a portfolio of premium European brands. Working on high-quality residential projects, we combine creative design with technical expertise and attention to detail.

Following significant growth over the past 12 months, we're looking for someone who can support our day-to-day operations while developing the skills to become a fully competent Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Designer.

No previous design experience is required. What matters most is your attention to detail, enthusiasm for design and willingness to learn.

The Opportunity

This is a genuine opportunity to build a long-term career in the interior design industry, learning how premium kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms are designed, specified and delivered.

Initially, the role will focus on administration and operational support rather than hands-on design.

You'll help check orders, prepare paperwork, maintain accurate project records and support the showroom team, gaining a thorough understanding of the processes behind successful installations.

As your knowledge and confidence develop, you'll receive training in design software, products, layouts and customer consultations, gradually moving into a more creative and customer-facing role.

What You'll Be Doing

Your initial responsibilities will include:

Preparing customer quotations, paperwork and project documentation. Checking supplier orders against approved designs, measurements and specifications. Assisting with placing orders and identifying discrepancies. Maintaining accurate customer information and project records using our CRM system. Making design amendments under supervision. Supporting showroom administration and day-to-day operations. Liaising with colleagues and suppliers to help projects run smoothly. With training and experience, you'll work towards taking full responsibility for checking and placing supplier orders. Your Career in Design

As you progress, you'll have the opportunity to learn:

Kitchen, bedroom and bathroom design software. Product knowledge, layouts, materials and finishes. Creating and presenting attractive, practical designs. Understanding customer requirements and preparing quotations. Managing customer projects from initial consultation through to completion. We offer a clear career development pathway:

Design Assistant → Junior Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Designer → Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Designer

Our aim is to develop someone who combines creativity with technical knowledge and can eventually manage their own customer design projects.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable and keen to develop a career in kitchen, bedroom and bathroom design.

You'll ideally have:

Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to checking information. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage different tasks. Good computer literacy and confidence learning new systems. Clear communication skills when dealing with colleagues, customers and suppliers. Reliability and initiative, with a willingness to take responsibility. A genuine interest in interior design and enthusiasm for learning both its creative and technical aspects. Previous administration, office or customer service experience would be beneficial, but it's not essential. We're equally interested in enthusiastic school or college leavers who can demonstrate the right attitude, aptitude and willingness to learn. Why Join Counter Interiors?

Join a growing, independent, family-run business. Work with premium European kitchen, bedroom and bathroom brands. Gain exposure to high-quality residential design projects. Receive practical training and development. Follow a clear pathway towards a professional design career. Take on meaningful responsibilities as your skills develop. Interested?
