Job Description
We are currently recruiting for a Transport Operator to join our client’s team in Northampton, covering the afternoon shift. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous transport coordination or transport planning experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working as part of a team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day running of transport operations, supporting drivers, coordinating with the warehouse team, and ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of vehicles and deliveries.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct driver briefings and debriefings.
- Support transport routing, planning and scheduling.
- Work closely with drivers, the transport team and warehouse colleagues to ensure efficient operations.
- Assist with ensuring compliance with tachograph legislation and the Working Time Directive.
- Make operational decisions and use your own initiative, including during periods when management is not on site.
- Manage competing priorities and respond effectively to changing operational requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks using Microsoft Office applications.
- Provide flexible support for overtime and holiday cover when required.
About You
Ideally, you will have previous experience in a transport office, transport coordination or a similar logistics role.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Good knowledge of transport operations, routing and planning.
- An understanding of tachograph legislation and the Working Time Directive.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with drivers and colleagues.
- A proactive, team-focused approach with the confidence to work independently.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask and work under pressure.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- A flexible approach to working hours, including overtime and holiday cover when required.
Working Hours
13:30 – 22:00, Monday to Friday (working days to be confirmed)
- 8.5-hour shift, including a 30-minute unpaid break.
- Afternoon shift based in Northampton.
Pay Rates and Benefits
- £16.20 per hour – between 06:00 and 20:00.
- £20.11 per hour – between 20:00 and 06:00.
- £20.37 per hour – overtime after 40 hours.
- £32.40 per hour – Bank Holiday rate
