This is a rewarding opportunity to support residents facing homelessness or housing difficulties while helping to deliver effective housing solutions across the district.

About the Role

As the first point of contact for residents seeking housing assistance, you will play a crucial role in helping people access the support they need. You will provide advice, guidance and practical assistance to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, carrying out initial assessments in line with housing legislation and statutory guidance. You will also help coordinate and manage temporary accommodation placements, ensuring that residents are supported appropriately while longer-term housing solutions are explored. No two days are the same. This is an exciting and varied role that offers the opportunity to make a real difference to people's lives while developing valuable skills and experience within housing and homelessness services.

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about helping people, committed to delivering excellent customer service and eager to learn. Whilst experience of housing, homelessness or tenancy services would be beneficial, it is not essential. We recognise that valuable skills and experience are gained in many different sectors and environments. If you have experience in customer service, health and social care, support services, benefits, advice work, public services, voluntary organisations or other people-focused roles, we would welcome your application. Most importantly, you will have:

• A genuine desire to support people through challenging situations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to listen carefully, gather information and identify solutions.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• A proactive, positive and resilient approach.
• A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• The ability to work sensitively and professionally with vulnerable individuals and families. We are committed to investing in our people and will provide training, guidance and support to help you develop your knowledge of housing legislation, homelessness prevention and accommodation management. If you bring enthusiasm, compassion and a willingness to learn, we will support you to develop the specialist skills needed to succeed in this role. No previous housing experience? Don't let that stop you applying. If you can demonstrate transferable skills, a strong customer focus and a commitment to learning, we'd love to hear from you. Why Join Bassetlaw District Council?
