About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialized Tribology Engineer to join their materials science and engineering team in Sheffield . This role focuses on the science of friction, wear, and lubrication, playing a critical part in enhancing the performance and longevity of mechanical components. You will conduct research, perform experimental testing, and develop solutions to minimize wear and optimize frictional properties. Key Responsibilities

• Investigate and analyze friction and wear phenomena in mechanical systems.
• Design and conduct experimental tests to evaluate material performance under various operating conditions.
• Develop and recommend lubricants, surface treatments, and material modifications to reduce wear.
• Analyze wear debris and surface topography to understand failure mechanisms.
• Collaborate with mechanical designers and materials scientists to implement tribological solutions.
• Document research findings, test results, and design recommendations in detailed reports.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with a specialization in tribology.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in tribology research and application.
• Proficiency with tribological testing equipment (e.g., pin-on-disk, reciprocating wear testers).
• Knowledge of surface analysis techniques (e.g., SEM, profilometry).
• Experience with material selection and surface engineering principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent research capabilities.
