About the Role
Our client seeks an innovative Upstream Data Scientist to join their advanced analytics team, working remotely. This role will focus on leveraging large datasets from exploration and production activities within the Oil & Gas industry to uncover insights, build predictive models, and optimize decision-making. You will work with geoscientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to solve complex upstream challenges using machine learning, statistical modeling, and data visualization techniques. This is an exciting opportunity to apply cutting-edge data science methodologies to real-world energy problems in a flexible, remote setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement machine learning models for predicting reservoir performance, optimizing drilling operations, and improving production efficiency.
- Analyze vast geological, geophysical, and production datasets to identify trends and opportunities.
- Collaborate with domain experts to define business problems and translate them into data science solutions.
- Design and conduct experiments to test hypotheses and validate model performance.
- Communicate complex findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Stay current with advancements in data science, machine learning, and their applications in the Oil & Gas sector.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) as a Data Scientist , with a focus on upstream Oil & Gas applications.
- Strong proficiency in Python or R, including libraries for data manipulation, machine learning, and visualization (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for data-driven discovery.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a distributed team.
