Vineyard Assistant Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking an enthusiastic and hands-on Vineyard Assistant Manager to support the management of their growing vineyard operations in the scenic region near Edinburgh, Scotland . This role involves direct involvement in all aspects of viticulture, from vineyard maintenance and canopy management to grape harvesting and assisting with winemaking preparations. You will work closely with the Vineyard Manager, contributing to the cultivation of high-quality grapes for premium Scottish wines. Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the day-to-day management of the vineyard, including vine pruning, training, and canopy management.
• Implement pest, disease, and weed control strategies according to organic and sustainable principles.
• Operate and maintain vineyard machinery and equipment, including tractors, sprayers, and harvesting machinery.
• Monitor vine health and grape development throughout the growing season, collecting data on ripeness and yield potential.
• Support harvesting operations, coordinating teams and ensuring efficient and careful grape collection.
• Assist with vineyard irrigation systems and soil health management.
• Contribute to general estate maintenance and other duties as required.

Requirements

• Experience in viticulture or a related agricultural field is highly desirable.
• A degree or qualification in Agriculture, Horticulture, Viticulture, or a related science is advantageous.
• Practical knowledge of vineyard operations, including pruning and pest management.
• Ability to operate farm machinery and maintain equipment.
• Physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• A proactive approach, strong work ethic, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
