The Role

As a Youth Mentor and Pastoral Worker, you will bridge the gap between academic learning and emotional well being in a bustling primary setting. You will work closely with vulnerable pupils across primary age groups, acting as a trusted role model, sounding board, and guide.

Your objective is to help young children navigate their big emotions, build positive coping strategies, develop social skills, and re-engage with their learning and classroom community.

Pastoral Care & Early Intervention: Deliver targeted, age-appropriate interventions focused on emotional regulation, building friendships, resilience, and conflict resolution. Behaviour Support & De-escalation: Utilise trauma-informed approaches and positive behaviour management strategies to support children through emotional peaks and maintain a safe, nurturing classroom environment. Classroom & Activity Support: Support teaching staff during lessons, small-group interventions, or transition periods to keep students grounded and on-task.Candidate Requirements

Experience: Proven experience working with children or young people (e.g., as a Youth Worker, Pastoral Support Worker, Teaching Assistant, Sports Coach, or Care Worker) ideally within a primary education or youth setting. Attributes: High levels of emotional resilience, patience, warmth, firm and consistent boundary-setting, and a natural ability to build rapport with disengaged or anxious learners. Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in Youth Work, Health & Social Care, Child Development, Psychology, or related fields are highly desirable. Vetting: Must hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or be willing to process one immediately through Tradewind). Why Join Through Tradewind Recruitment?
