About the Role
Our client, a key player in the UK aerospace industry located in Plymouth, Devon , is seeking an analytical and experienced Aircraft Performance Engineer . This role is central to optimizing aircraft operational efficiency, fuel economy, and flight envelope performance. You will analyze flight data, conduct performance modeling, and provide crucial insights to enhance aircraft capabilities and reduce operating costs. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative engineering environment, contributing to the development and support of advanced aviation technologies, driving innovation from our Plymouth base.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze flight test data and operational data to assess aircraft performance characteristics.
- Develop and validate mathematical models for aircraft performance, including climb, cruise, descent, and landing performance.
- Optimize flight planning parameters and operational procedures to maximize fuel efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
- Support aircraft certification processes by providing performance data and documentation.
- Collaborate with design, aerodynamics, and propulsion teams to influence aircraft design for optimal performance.
- Investigate performance anomalies and provide technical solutions to improve operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in aircraft performance engineering or a closely related field.
- Strong understanding of aerodynamics, thermodynamics, and flight mechanics.
- Proficiency with performance modeling tools and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Python scripting).
- Experience in analyzing large datasets and generating actionable insights.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in Devon .
