Automotive Diagnostics Software Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Automotive Diagnostics Software Engineer to join their team in Nottingham . This role is critical for developing and maintaining the software that enables vehicle diagnostics, fault detection, and maintenance information systems. You will work on tools and software that assist technicians in identifying and resolving issues, ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of vehicles. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain diagnostic software, including fault code management, data logging, and parameter monitoring tools for automotive systems.
• Implement and adhere to automotive diagnostic standards such as OBD-II, UDS (Unified Diagnostic Services), and KWP2000.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and service technicians to understand diagnostic requirements and develop effective software solutions.
• Test and validate diagnostic software functionality on bench setups and actual vehicles, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
• Document diagnostic software specifications, user guides, and troubleshooting procedures for internal and external use.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in software development, with specific experience in automotive diagnostics or embedded systems.
• Proficiency in C/C++ programming and experience with embedded software development principles.
• Strong understanding of automotive communication protocols, particularly those related to diagnostics (e.g., CAN, UDS).
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools, oscilloscopes, and other relevant testing equipment is advantageous.
