About the Role
Our client is looking for a proactive Automotive Materials Engineer to join their established team in Norwich . You will be responsible for the selection, development, and validation of materials used in automotive components, focusing on performance, durability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. This role requires a strong understanding of material science, manufacturing processes, and the unique demands of the automotive environment. You will work closely with design, engineering, and production departments to ensure the optimal use of materials throughout the vehicle lifecycle, contributing to the innovation and quality of our client's products.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and select appropriate materials (metals, polymers, composites) for various automotive applications.
- Conduct material testing and analysis to assess properties such as strength, fatigue, corrosion resistance, and thermal stability.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure material quality and consistency, and to explore new material innovations.
- Develop and implement material specifications and processing guidelines.
- Investigate material failures and provide technical support for troubleshooting and process improvements.
- Stay informed about advancements in material science and their potential applications in the automotive industry.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Materials Engineer, preferably within the automotive industry .
- Strong knowledge of material properties, processing techniques, and failure analysis.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to automotive materials.
- Experience with material testing equipment and analytical techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical information effectively.
