Behaviour Support Assistant - SEMH
Prospero Teaching is currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school in Harrow.
The school caters for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing a nurturing environment where young people are supported both academically and emotionally. The staff team is highly experienced and works collaboratively to help students develop confidence, self-regulation skills, and positive relationships.
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who may present with challenging behaviours, emotional difficulties, or barriers to learning. You will play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them to engage positively with their education and reach their full potential.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies Supporting students during lessons and unstructured times throughout the school day Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams Encouraging student engagement, attendance, and personal development Assisting with behaviour management and de-escalation when required
Contract Details
Location: Harrow, North West London Position: Behaviour Support Assistant (SEMH) Start Date: Immediate / ASAP Full-Time: Yes Pay Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience
Training & Qualifications
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs, autism, or additional learning needs A calm, patient, and resilient approach Strong communication and relationship-building skills Experience in education, youth work, care, mentoring, support work, or similar settings desirable Up-to-date Safeguarding Training (or willingness to complete training)
To Be Eligible For This Role Through Prospero Teaching, You Must:
Hold the Right to Work in the UK Hold an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one Provide two professional references covering the last two years Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
