Category Manager - Logistics & Distribution

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Category Manager with expertise in logistics and distribution to join their remote-first procurement team. This strategic role will be responsible for managing all aspects of spend within the logistics category, driving value, and ensuring the efficiency of the supply chain. You will develop and implement category strategies, lead complex negotiations with logistics providers, and build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to meet business objectives. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive category strategies for logistics and distribution services, focusing on cost reduction, service improvement, and risk mitigation.
• Lead supplier selection processes, including RFPs, negotiations, and contract awards for transportation, warehousing, and other logistics services.
• Manage key supplier relationships, monitoring performance against contractual obligations and fostering collaborative partnerships.
• Analyze market trends, economic conditions, and supplier capabilities to identify sourcing opportunities and potential risks within the logistics sector.
• Collaborate with operations, sales, and finance teams to understand evolving needs and ensure procurement strategies support business growth.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the logistics category, leveraging data analytics and best practices.

Requirements

• Significant experience (5+ years) in category management or strategic sourcing, specifically within logistics and distribution procurement.
• Demonstrated success in negotiating complex service agreements and achieving substantial cost savings.
• In-depth knowledge of global logistics operations, Incoterms, and various transportation modes.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, develop business cases, and present findings effectively.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities, essential for a remote role.
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related discipline; MCIPS or equivalent is advantageous.
