Forestry Technician

About the Role

Our client is looking for a diligent and detail-oriented Forestry Technician to support their forest management operations in the Edinburgh area. This field-based role involves assisting foresters in data collection, monitoring forest health, and implementing silvicultural treatments. You will be involved in essential tasks such as tree marking, inventory surveys, and site preparation for planting, contributing directly to the sustainable management of local woodlands. This is an excellent entry point for individuals passionate about forest conservation and eager to gain practical experience in the forestry sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting forest inventories, including measuring tree diameter, height, and volume.
• Marking trees for harvesting or thinning according to established plans.
• Monitor forest stands for signs of disease, insect infestation, or environmental damage.
• Participate in reforestation activities, including site preparation and seedling planting.
• Maintain forestry equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working order.
• Collect and record field data accurately using appropriate tools and techniques.

Requirements

• HNC/HND in Forestry, Arboriculture, or a related environmental science discipline.
• Some practical experience in forestry fieldwork or a strong interest in the field.
• Basic knowledge of tree species identification and forest ecosystems.
• Familiarity with using measurement tools and basic data recording.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
• Good physical fitness and the ability to work as part of a team.
