Geotechnical Engineer - Mining Projects

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their specialized team supporting significant mining projects based in Manchester . This role focuses on assessing ground stability, designing support systems, and mitigating risks associated with underground and open-pit mining operations. You will collaborate closely with geologists, mining engineers, and construction teams to ensure the safety and integrity of mine sites and associated infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations, including site assessments and soil/rock mechanics testing.
• Analyze slope stability, tunnel support, and foundation design for mining infrastructure.
• Develop and implement ground support strategies for underground excavations and open-pit walls.
• Monitor ground conditions and provide recommendations for remediation and risk management.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and specifications for project execution.
• Collaborate with project teams to ensure geotechnical considerations are integrated into mine design and planning.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
• A Master's degree with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in geotechnical analysis, particularly within the mining or heavy construction sectors.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, FLAC).
• Knowledge of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and hydrogeology.
• Strong report writing and presentation skills.
