Geotechnical Engineer - Mining

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly qualified Geotechnical Engineer to join their team based in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire . This role is crucial for assessing the ground conditions and stability of mining sites, ensuring the safety and integrity of excavations, tunnels, and structures. You will perform detailed analyses, develop ground support designs, and provide expert geotechnical advice to guide safe and efficient mining operations. This position requires a strong presence on-site to conduct investigations and oversee the implementation of geotechnical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, soil and rock mass testing, and laboratory analysis.
• Perform stability analyses for open-pit slopes, underground excavations, and mine waste disposal facilities.
• Design and specify ground support systems, seepage control measures, and foundation designs.
• Develop geotechnical monitoring plans and interpret monitoring data to assess performance and identify risks.
• Provide expert geotechnical input for mine planning, design, and operational activities.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and technical recommendations.

Requirements

• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering , with significant exposure to mining projects.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software for numerical modeling (e.g., FLAC, Plaxis, Rocscience suite).
• Experience with field investigation techniques and interpretation of geophysical data .
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly.
