Interim Associate Director of Financial Management

Reed Finance are currently partnered with an NHS Foundation Trust in the West Sussex area who are seeking an experienced and dynamic senior finance leader to undertake the role of Interim Associate Director of Financial Management. This high-profile leadership position within the Finance Directorate offers the opportunity to provide strategic financial leadership and oversight across multiple operational and corporate portfolios.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Provide strategic leadership for the Trust's Financial Management and Business Partnering function.
• Lead the development and delivery of annual and medium-term financial plans.
• Oversee financial performance management across multiple portfolios, ensuring early identification and mitigation of risks.
• Support the delivery of financial recovery plans and Cost Improvement Programmes (CIPs).
• Provide strategic financial advice and challenge to Executive and senior management teams.
• Lead financial input into business cases, transformation programmes, and major investment decisions.
• Ensure robust budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes are maintained across the organisation.
• Lead and develop a team of Finance Business Partners and associated finance staff.
• Ensure compliance with NHS financial governance requirements, Standing Financial Instructions, and relevant accounting standards.
• Develop strong relationships with operational, clinical, and corporate leaders across the organisation.
• Represent the Trust at system, regional, and partnership meetings where required.
• Lead engagement with auditors and contribute to assurance processes.
• Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and the use of financial insight to support organisational decision-making.
• Support the development of financial capability across budget holders and senior managers.
• Drive value for money, efficiency, and financial sustainability across the Trust.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• CCAB or CIMA qualified accountant.
• Significant senior financial leadership experience within a large and complex organisation.
• Extensive experience of NHS financial management, business partnering, and financial planning.
• Strong understanding of NHS financial governance frameworks and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrable experience of leading financial recovery programmes, Cost Improvement Programmes, and organisational change initiatives.
• Experience of influencing and advising senior leaders and executive teams.
• Proven track record of delivering robust financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
• Experience of leading and developing successful finance teams.
• Strong analytical, financial modelling, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to interpret complex financial information and present it clearly to non-finance audiences.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
