About the Role
Our client seeks a seasoned Lead Environmental Scientist to join their forward-thinking team, operating remotely from Edinburgh, Scotland . In this vital role, you will guide environmental strategy and compliance for their global mining operations, ensuring adherence to stringent regulations and promoting sustainable practices. You will lead environmental impact assessments, develop mitigation plans, and champion ecological stewardship across all projects. This position is ideal for an expert who is passionate about minimizing the environmental footprint of mining and driving positive change within the industry, offering a remote-first approach to environmental leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive environmental management plans for mining projects, from exploration to closure.
- Lead environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and permitting processes.
- Oversee the monitoring of air, water, and soil quality at mine sites and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Develop and implement strategies for waste management, remediation, and biodiversity conservation .
- Provide expert environmental guidance and training to project teams and operational staff.
- Stay abreast of evolving environmental legislation and best practices in the mining industry .
Requirements
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in environmental management , with a significant portion dedicated to the mining or heavy industry sectors.
- Proven track record in leading EIAs, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation (e.g., UK environmental law, international standards).
- Experience with GIS software and environmental modeling tools is advantageous.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
