Lead Materials Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative and experienced Lead Materials Scientist to spearhead research and development initiatives within their advanced materials division located in Coventry . This role involves guiding a team of scientists and engineers in the discovery, characterization, and application of novel materials that will shape future technologies. You will play a pivotal role in setting the scientific direction, fostering a collaborative environment, and ensuring the successful translation of laboratory findings into commercially viable products. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the research and development of new materials, focusing on properties and performance enhancements relevant to industry applications.
• Oversee a team of materials scientists and technicians, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
• Design and conduct experiments to characterize material properties using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD, spectroscopy).
• Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of new materials into production processes.
• Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
• Author technical reports, patent applications, and research publications.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in materials research and development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Proven expertise in material synthesis, processing, and characterization techniques.
• Strong knowledge of polymers, ceramics, composites, or metals, depending on the specific focus.
• Experience with computational materials modeling and simulation is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
