About the Role
Our client is looking for a dedicated Livestock Technician to support their operations in Belfast. This role is integral to maintaining the health, welfare, and productivity of the farm's livestock. You will work closely with veterinarians and farm managers, performing routine tasks related to animal care, feeding, and health monitoring. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for animal welfare, practical experience with livestock, and a meticulous approach to record-keeping. This position offers a chance to contribute directly to the success of a significant agricultural enterprise in Northern Ireland, ensuring the highest standards of animal husbandry are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily feeding, watering, and general care of livestock, including cattle, sheep, and poultry.
- Monitor animal health, identify any signs of illness or distress, and report observations to the farm manager or veterinarian.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments under veterinary supervision.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in animal housing, pens, and surrounding areas.
- Assist with breeding programs, including artificial insemination and pregnancy checks where applicable.
- Keep accurate records of animal health, treatments, feeding, and production data.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with livestock in a farm or veterinary setting.
- Good knowledge of animal husbandry practices and common livestock diseases.
- Ability to perform physical tasks related to animal care, including lifting and handling.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail for monitoring animal health.
- Basic understanding of record-keeping and data entry.
- A qualification in Animal Care, Agriculture, or a related discipline is a plus.
