Job Description
Maintenance Supervisor (Instrument Biased)
Working Location: Guildford
Contract Type: Permanent
About the Role
This Maintenance Supervisor position is ideal for an instrument-biased leader. Whether you are an experienced supervisor with a control and instrumentation (C&I) background, or a senior instrument technician ready to step into a full supervisory role, you will play a key part in supporting a well-established organisation in the energy sector. You will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance delivery, team performance, and plant reliability on a live, safety-critical site, with a strong focus on instrumentation and control systems.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise a multi-discipline maintenance team of technicians and contractors, with a particular focus on C&I. Drive maintenance performance, safety, and compliance standards across the site. Plan and manage day-to-day maintenance activities, shutdowns, and outages. Act as the technical lead for instrumentation and control systems, including fault-finding, calibration oversight, and reliability improvements. Coordinate mechanical and electrical activities alongside C&I work. Utilise a CMMS to plan, prioritise, and track work, and to drive planned and preventive maintenance. Support plant improvement and reliability initiatives. Ensure all work meets regulatory, hazardous area, and safety requirements. Support reporting, scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.
Requirements
Time-served instrument or C&I technician background, at NVQ/apprenticeship level or above (HNC/HND desirable). Proven experience as a Maintenance Supervisor, Team Leader, or Lead Technician. Strong hands-on knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, plus a working understanding of mechanical and electrical plant. Experience in energy, oil & gas, chemical, process, or other high-hazard industrial environments. Sound understanding of ATEX/DSEAR and hazardous area requirements (CompEx desirable). Experience with shutdowns, maintenance planning, and CMMS systems. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
If you are an instrument-biased maintenance leader looking to take ownership of the performance of a vital energy site, this is your opportunity to lead, develop your team, and drive plant reliability and safety
