About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Mine Planning Engineer to join their technical services team based in Sunderland . This role is crucial for the strategic development and optimization of mining operations, focusing on short-term and long-term mine plans. You will leverage advanced modeling software and your engineering expertise to design efficient extraction sequences, manage resource utilization, and ensure operational continuity and profitability. Working within the dynamic Tyne and Wear mining region, you will play a key role in translating geological data into practical, executable mining plans that maximize value while upholding rigorous safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed short-term and long-term mine plans, including production schedules and resource allocation.
- Utilize mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac) to create 3D mine layouts, including open-pit or underground designs.
- Perform calculations for reserve estimation, ore reserve depletion, and production forecasting.
- Collaborate with geological, survey, and operations teams to ensure plan feasibility and alignment.
- Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for potential mining projects or extensions.
- Monitor plan performance against targets and recommend adjustments as necessary to optimize outcomes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine planning and design, preferably within the UK mining industry .
- Proficiency with industry-standard mine planning software packages.
- Solid understanding of mining methods, surveying principles, and geological data interpretation.
- Experience in open-pit and/or underground mine planning techniques.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
