Muslim Student Life Manager

Students' Union UCL is an organisation that exists to make more happen. We are the representative body for University College London's (UCL) students, one of the most diverse student communities in the world. Our vision is to provide an outstanding experience for all UCL students and to be one of the best students' unions in the UK and the world. We aim to build a vibrant and empowered student community with real influence in UCL and beyond, that enables students to enjoy their time at university; pursue their interests and passions; see the world in new ways; and develop the skills and experience to change the world for the better.

We are a registered charity employing over 150 career staff and 300 student staff, delivering a wide range of services and representative functions for UCL students. We have the widest portfolio of services of any student organisation in the country, managing UCL's extracurricular programmes for sport, music, drama, dance, media, volunteering, academic societies and intercultural engagement; providing a wide range of fantastic social spaces; leading on student democracy and representation across UCL; and offering excellent student support services.

It's an exciting time to join our growing organisation as we lead the delivery of UCL's ground-breaking Student Life Strategy. This is enabling us to build more programmes to improve students' mental and physical wellbeing, promote genuine equity for all, build students' skills and confidence, develop their international connections and intercultural skills, and make a real contribution to our local community.

The role is a full time, 3 year fixed term contract. This role is based at our Bloomsbury campus with flexibility to work from home on a 40/60 basis (40% working from the office).

We are recruiting for two new roles with a specific focus on Jewish and Muslim student life. The Muslim Student Life Manager will act as Students' Union UCL's specialist on Muslim student experience and play a lead role in creating the conditions in which Muslim students can flourish academically, socially, and personally at UCL. Working in a complex and high-profile environment across the Students' Union and UCL, the postholder will develop partnerships, programmes and institutional capability to enhance Muslim student experience, develop greater religious literacy, and tackle islamophobia. In short, the Muslim Student Life Manager's job is to support Muslim students to learn and live well at UCL.

Do you have experience of developing and delivering cultural education or inclusion focused programmes? Do you have a deep understanding of Islamic culture, traditions, practices and contemporary Muslim student life gained through lived experience and/or extensive involvement within Muslim communities in the UK.? If the answer is yes, then we want to hear from you.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of islamophobia and approaches to prevention, education and awareness and have strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively with people from different cultural or faith backgrounds and with different world views.
