About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Principal Scientist to spearhead drug discovery initiatives within their cutting-edge research facility in Birmingham . This senior role demands a visionary leader capable of directing complex research programs aimed at identifying and validating novel drug targets. You will work within a world-class team of scientists and clinicians, driving innovation from early-stage discovery through to pre-clinical development, contributing significantly to the company's pipeline. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of therapeutic areas and a proven ability to translate scientific insights into viable drug candidates, fostering a collaborative research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple drug discovery projects, setting strategic direction and ensuring timely execution.
- Design and implement innovative research strategies to identify and characterize novel therapeutic targets.
- Oversee experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation for a broad range of discovery projects.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance the drug discovery pipeline.
- Prepare high-quality scientific reports, presentations, and regulatory documents.
- Mentor and develop a team of research associates and scientists, promoting scientific rigor and innovation.
Requirements
- PhD in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, or a related life science discipline.
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in drug discovery and development within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Demonstrated success in leading discovery projects from target identification to candidate selection.
- Expertise in at least one major therapeutic area (e.g., oncology, immunology, CNS).
- Strong understanding of drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics (DMPK), and toxicology principles.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic planning abilities.
