About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Process Chemist to join their Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing team in Portsmouth . This role is focused on optimizing and scaling up chemical synthesis routes for APIs, ensuring efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness. You will work closely with chemists, engineers, and production personnel to troubleshoot manufacturing processes, implement improvements, and ensure consistent product quality. This position is crucial for the successful and scalable production of vital pharmaceutical ingredients.
Key Responsibilities
- Optimize existing chemical synthesis routes for APIs to improve yield, purity, and reduce costs.
- Develop new synthetic processes for APIs, considering scalability, safety, and environmental impact.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing process issues and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct process hazard analyses and ensure adherence to safety protocols in chemical manufacturing.
- Work with analytical chemists to develop and validate methods for in-process controls and final product release.
- Collaborate with engineers to design and implement process improvements and equipment upgrades.
Requirements
- BSc or MSc in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in process chemistry, preferably within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
- Strong understanding of synthetic organic chemistry and reaction mechanisms.
- Experience with process scale-up, hazard assessment, and GMP manufacturing principles.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques used for reaction monitoring and product characterization.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment in Portsmouth .
