Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to join their operations team in Portsmouth . This critical role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of process safety across all company facilities and projects. You will be responsible for implementing and managing robust safety systems, conducting hazard analyses, and promoting a strong safety culture. Your expertise will be key in identifying, evaluating, and controlling process-related risks, safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment within the demanding Oil & Gas sector. You will work closely with operations, engineering, and management teams to uphold and enhance safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop and implement process safety management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations and standards (e.g., Seveso Directive).
• Oversee the design and implementation of safety instrumented systems (SIS) and other safety layers.
• Investigate process safety incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Provide training and guidance on process safety principles and practices to site personnel.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Process Safety Engineering , ideally within the Oil & Gas or chemical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of process safety principles, methodologies, and regulations.
• Experience with PHA software and risk assessment techniques.
• Strong understanding of process design, operations, and mechanical integrity.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
