About the Role
Our client requires a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to bolster their safety division in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear . This vital role ensures that all chemical processes and plant operations adhere to the highest safety standards, minimising risks to personnel, the environment, and the company. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining robust safety management systems, conducting critical risk assessments, and fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organisation. This is an essential position for maintaining operational integrity and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Process Safety Management (PSM) system.
- Conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
- Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation, standards, and industry best practices.
- Develop and deliver process safety training programs to site personnel.
- Review designs for new or modified processes to ensure inherent safety is considered.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Significant experience (5+ years) in process safety engineering, ideally within a chemical or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of PSM elements and risk assessment techniques.
- Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and hazardous area classifications.
- Strong understanding of relevant UK and international safety regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex safety issues effectively.
