SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Salisbury Pay: £88–£100 per day, depending on experience Start Date: ASAP Hours: 08:30–15:30 Contract: Long-Term | Potential Permanent Opportunity
Supply Desk is recruiting for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist education setting in Salisbury.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a calm, resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The setting supports pupils who may have faced challenges in mainstream education, providing a structured, nurturing environment where positive relationships, emotional wellbeing and personal development are at the heart of learning.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide consistent, individualised support both in and outside the classroom.
You'll help pupils manage their emotions, develop positive behaviours and overcome barriers to learning, encouraging them to build confidence, independence and trust in their own abilities.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
Support emotional regulation, behaviour management and positive interactions.
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
Assist teachers with classroom learning and activities.
Encourage independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
Follow individual behaviour and learning support plans.
Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff and pastoral teams.
Promote safeguarding, inclusion and pupil wellbeing.
What We're Looking For
Experience supporting children or young people in education, care, youth work, coaching or similar settings.
An understanding of SEMH, SEND or behaviour support.
A calm, patient and consistent approach.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Resilience and confidence when managing challenging situations.
A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and succeed.
An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
