About the Role
Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Bioinformatician to join their innovative research team in Belfast . This role is critical for the analysis and interpretation of large-scale genomic datasets, playing a key part in advancing our understanding of complex biological systems and disease mechanisms. You will work at the forefront of genomic research, developing and applying cutting-edge bioinformatics pipelines to extract meaningful insights from high-throughput sequencing data. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with leading scientists and clinicians in a dynamic research environment, contributing to high-impact projects within the Northern Ireland scientific landscape. You will be instrumental in shaping data analysis strategies and driving discoveries.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
- Analyze large-scale genomic datasets, including whole-genome, exome, and RNA-sequencing data.
- Identify and interpret genetic variants, gene expression patterns, and other genomic features relevant to research questions.
- Collaborate with biologists, clinicians, and other researchers to define analytical requirements and interpret results.
- Visualize complex genomic data and present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Contribute to the development of databases and computational tools for genomic data management and sharing.
Requirements
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in bioinformatics, with a focus on genomics.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in bioinformatics (e.g., Python, R, Perl).
- Hands-on experience with NGS data analysis tools and software (e.g., BWA, GATK, STAR, Salmon).
- Strong understanding of statistical genetics and population genetics principles.
- Experience with Linux/Unix environments and high-performance computing clusters is essential.
