About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to lead critical procurement activities for their operations in Birmingham . This role is central to ensuring the consistent supply of high-quality materials and services essential for the business. As a Senior Buyer, you will leverage your extensive experience to drive strategic sourcing initiatives, optimize supplier relationships, and manage complex procurement projects. You will work closely with manufacturing, engineering, and finance departments to align purchasing strategies with overall business objectives, contributing significantly to cost control and operational efficiency in a busy industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies for key categories of spend, aiming for cost reduction and risk mitigation.
• Lead negotiations with major suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
• Oversee the entire lifecycle of complex purchase orders and contracts, ensuring compliance and best value.
• Manage and mentor junior members of the purchasing team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
• Analyze market trends and supplier capabilities to identify new sourcing opportunities and potential risks.
• Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure all procured goods and services meet stringent standards.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a dedicated Buyer or Procurement role, with at least 2 years in a senior capacity.
• Demonstrated success in negotiating large-scale contracts and achieving significant cost savings.
• Strong understanding of supply chain management principles and purchasing best practices.
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills for data analysis.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
