About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Computational Scientist with expertise in Cheminformatics to join their innovative research team in Nottingham . This role is vital for leveraging computational approaches to accelerate drug discovery, focusing on the design, analysis, and optimization of small molecules. You will work with large chemical and biological datasets, develop predictive models, and collaborate closely with medicinal chemists and biologists to identify promising drug candidates. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and apply cheminformatics tools and methodologies for virtual screening, lead optimization, and property prediction.
- Design and implement machine learning models for predicting molecular properties, bioactivity, and ADMET profiles.
- Analyze large chemical databases to identify structure-activity relationships and trends.
- Collaborate with medicinal chemists to design novel compounds with desired properties and guide synthetic efforts.
- Integrate cheminformatics approaches with other computational disciplines, such as molecular modeling and bioinformatics.
- Communicate complex computational findings effectively to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
Requirements
- PhD in Cheminformatics, Computer Science, Computational Chemistry, or a related quantitative field.
- Significant experience (6+ years) in cheminformatics, drug discovery, or computational chemistry.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and experience with cheminformatics toolkits (e.g., RDKit, OpenEye).
- Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and their application to chemical data.
- Experience with chemical databases and structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
