Senior Optical Network Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Optical Network Engineer to join their advanced network team in Glasgow . This role is focused on the design, implementation, and optimization of optical transport networks, essential for delivering high-speed data services. You will work with cutting-edge DWDM and optical switching technologies, ensuring the scalability and efficiency of our fiber infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in optical networking and a passion for pushing the boundaries of network performance and capacity.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and architect robust and scalable optical transport networks using technologies like DWDM, OTN, and ROADMs.
• Plan and execute network upgrades and expansions, minimizing service disruption.
• Monitor network performance, troubleshoot complex optical issues, and implement solutions to maintain service quality.
• Collaborate with vendors on new technology evaluations and procurement processes.
• Develop network documentation, including design guides, configuration standards, and operational procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in optical network engineering , with specific expertise in WDM systems.
• Hands-on experience with configuration and troubleshooting of major vendor optical platforms (e.g., Nokia, Ciena, Infinera).
• Strong understanding of optical physics, fiber optic characteristics, and transmission impairments.
• Proficiency in network simulation and design tools.
