Job Description
FLI Water is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team in Kempston.
This is an opportunity to take the commercial lead across a portfolio of projects, managing everything from tender handover through to final account. You’ll have real ownership of project performance, working closely with operational teams, subcontractors and clients to manage risk, control costs and identify opportunities.
As part of the FLI Group, FLI Water delivers complete turnkey projects, mechanical engineering services and process technologies across the water and wastewater, sectors.
The role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you’ll provide commercial and contractual leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the commercial management of projects from tender handover to final account
- Managing procurement and subcontractor accounts
- Producing and maintaining accurate CVRs, cost forecasts and commercial reporting
- Administering NEC3 and NEC4 contracts
- Managing compensation events, change control and contractual notices
- Identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risk
- Recognising and maximising commercial opportunities
- Leading commercial negotiations and agreeing final accounts
- Building strong relationships with clients, project teams and supply-chain partners
- Supporting and mentoring junior members of the Quantity Surveying team
- Driving continuous improvement in commercial processes and project performance
What we’re looking for
You’ll be an experienced Quantity Surveyor who is comfortable taking responsibility for the commercial performance of projects and confidently dealing with clients and contractors.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline
- Strong practical knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts
- Experience within the water, utilities or infrastructure sectors
- Strong commercial and financial awareness
- Experience of cost control, forecasting and CVRs
- Confident negotiation and stakeholder-management skills
- The ability to identify contractual and commercial risks before they become issues
- Experience supporting or mentoring less-experienced surveyors
- Professional membership or progress towards membership is desirable
