About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry to join their innovative drug discovery team based in Bristol . This role is central to designing and synthesizing novel small molecules with therapeutic potential, driving forward the early stages of drug development. You will work in a state-of-the-art chemistry laboratory, collaborating closely with biologists and computational chemists to optimize compound properties and advance promising drug candidates. Key Responsibilities
- Design and synthesize novel small molecules for targeted therapeutic areas, applying principles of medicinal chemistry.
- Optimize lead compounds through iterative cycles of design, synthesis, and in vitro testing.
- Collaborate closely with biologists and computational chemists to define structure-activity relationships (SAR).
- Develop and implement efficient synthetic routes and purification strategies.
- Characterize synthesized compounds using analytical techniques such as NMR, LC-MS, and HPLC.
- Maintain detailed experimental records and contribute to scientific reports and publications.
Requirements
- PhD in Medicinal Chemistry or Organic Chemistry with a strong focus on drug discovery.
- A minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience in medicinal chemistry within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Proven track record of successfully contributing to drug discovery projects, demonstrated by a strong publication record or patent portfolio.
- Extensive experience with modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques and instrumentation.
- Familiarity with structure-based drug design and computational chemistry tools.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.
