About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Drug Discovery Scientist with a strong background in Medicinal Chemistry to join their innovative research team in Leeds . This role is critical for designing, synthesizing, and optimizing novel small molecule drug candidates. You will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams, contributing your expertise to advance drug discovery programs from hit identification through to lead optimization. Key Responsibilities
- Design and synthesize novel chemical entities with desired pharmacological profiles using advanced organic synthesis techniques.
- Optimize lead compounds for potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetic properties, and safety, applying structure-activity relationship (SAR) principles.
- Collaborate closely with biologists, pharmacologists, and DMPK scientists to advance drug discovery projects.
- Utilize computational chemistry tools and structure-based drug design approaches to guide synthesis efforts.
- Manage external synthesis vendors and ensure timely delivery of high-quality compounds.
- Contribute to the intellectual property strategy through patent applications and scientific publications.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry , Organic Chemistry, or a related field, with a proven track record in drug discovery.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in pharmaceutical or biotech research and development.
- Extensive hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry, including multi-step synthesis and purification of complex molecules.
- Proficiency in using computational chemistry software (e.g., Schrödinger, MOE) and interpreting docking and modeling results.
- Strong understanding of drug discovery principles, including target validation, hit-to-lead, and lead optimization strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment in Leeds .
