About the Role
Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Scientist with expertise in Structural Biology to join their leading research and development team in Oxford . This role is central to understanding the three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules, which is critical for rational drug design and target validation. You will lead projects involving protein expression, purification, crystallization, and structure determination using techniques such as X-ray crystallography and Cryo-EM. The ideal candidate will possess a deep scientific understanding of protein structure-function relationships and a passion for applying structural insights to solve challenging biological problems within a collaborative, cutting-edge research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects focused on determining the structures of target proteins and protein-ligand complexes.
- Oversee protein expression and purification strategies to obtain high-quality material for structural studies.
- Optimize crystallization conditions and perform structure determination using X-ray diffraction or Cryo-EM.
- Analyze and interpret structural data, elucidating mechanisms of action and guiding drug design efforts.
- Collaborate closely with computational chemists, medicinal chemists, and biologists to integrate structural findings into discovery programs.
- Contribute to scientific publications, presentations, and patent applications.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in structural biology.
- Extensive hands-on experience with protein expression, purification, and crystallization techniques.
- Proficiency in X-ray crystallography and/or Cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) for structure determination.
- Strong understanding of protein structure-function relationships and their relevance to drug discovery.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for a hybrid work setting in Oxford .
