About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist with expertise in Structural Biology to join their advanced R&D team in Liverpool . This role is critical for elucidating the three-dimensional structures of key biological targets, providing essential insights for drug discovery and development programs. You will lead efforts in protein expression, purification, crystallization, and structural determination using techniques such as X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated scientist to contribute to critical projects in a state-of-the-art facility, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team focused on innovation and scientific excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the expression, purification, and characterization of target proteins and protein complexes for structural studies.
- Drive the structure determination process using advanced techniques, primarily X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM.
- Analyze and interpret structural data to provide critical insights into target function and mechanism of action for drug discovery.
- Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and computational scientists to integrate structural information into drug design efforts.
- Develop and troubleshoot protocols for challenging protein targets and optimize experimental conditions for high-resolution structure determination.
Requirements
- PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural biology, with a strong track record in protein crystallography and/or cryo-EM.
- Hands-on experience with structure determination, refinement, and analysis of macromolecular structures.
- Proficiency in protein expression and purification techniques from various expression systems (e.g., bacterial, insect, mammalian cells).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in Liverpool .
