Senior Substation Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly competent Senior Substation Engineer to join their critical infrastructure team in Leeds . This role is essential for the design, construction, and maintenance of high-voltage substations that form the backbone of the energy network. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and safety of these vital facilities, working closely with project managers, construction teams, and regulatory bodies. This is a field-based position requiring hands-on involvement and on-site presence to manage complex engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of new high-voltage substation projects, from concept to commissioning.
• Oversee the selection of substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and protection relays.
• Ensure all substation designs comply with national and international safety standards and electrical codes .
• Manage construction and commissioning activities, providing technical guidance and problem-solving on-site.
• Develop and implement substation maintenance strategies to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Conduct site inspections and technical audits to assess the condition of existing substation assets.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in substation engineering, including design and project management.
• In-depth knowledge of high-voltage equipment , protection systems, and earthing arrangements.
• Experience with project execution and site supervision in a construction or operational environment.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEC, BS) and safety regulations.
• Strong leadership qualities and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams effectively.
