About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly vigilant and skilled Air Traffic Controller to manage airspace operations at their busy Newcastle upon Tyne facility. This critical role ensures the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic, safeguarding passengers and crew. You will be responsible for coordinating with pilots and ground personnel, utilizing advanced radar and communication systems to maintain separation and prevent conflicts. This position demands exceptional concentration, rapid decision-making abilities, and a deep understanding of aviation procedures and meteorology within a dynamic operational setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Control and manage all aircraft movements within designated airspace, ensuring adherence to separation minima and traffic flow regulations.
- Communicate effectively with pilots via radio telephony, providing essential information, clearances, and instructions.
- Monitor radar displays and flight progress strips to track aircraft positions and anticipate potential conflicts.
- Coordinate with adjacent air traffic control units and other relevant aviation stakeholders to ensure seamless traffic management.
- Respond rapidly and decisively to emergencies and non-routine situations, implementing established contingency procedures.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of local and international aviation regulations and operational procedures.
Requirements
- Possess a valid Air Traffic Controller license and relevant ratings for the operational environment.
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex airspace, preferably in a busy airport or en-route control centre.
- Excellent situational awareness, decision-making capabilities, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Proficiency with modern ATC systems, including radar, communication equipment, and flight data processing.
- Strong understanding of aviation meteorology, aerodynamics, and aircraft performance characteristics.
