About the Role
Our client is seeking a strategic and proactive Aviation Safety Manager to join their operations based in Birmingham, West Midlands, UK . This critical role involves developing, implementing, and overseeing the organisation's aviation safety management system (SMS) to ensure compliance with national and international safety standards. You will play a pivotal role in fostering a strong safety culture throughout the company, driving initiatives that mitigate risks and enhance operational safety. This position requires a blend of hands-on oversight and strategic planning, with opportunities for both on-site collaboration and remote analysis of safety data.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Aviation Safety Management System (SMS) , ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations (e.g., EASA, CAA).
- Conduct regular safety risk assessments, hazard identification, and implement mitigation strategies across all aviation operations.
- Investigate aviation safety incidents and occurrences, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
- Promote a positive safety culture through training, communication, and engagement with all levels of staff.
- Monitor safety performance indicators (SPIs) and key safety metrics, reporting on trends and areas for improvement.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders on aviation safety matters.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in aviation safety management , preferably within an airline, MRO, or regulatory environment.
- In-depth knowledge of aviation safety regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., ICAO Annex 19, EASA Part OPS).
- Proven ability to develop and manage a comprehensive SMS, including hazard reporting and risk analysis systems.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in aviation, safety management, or a related field.
