Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent Process Safety Engineer to join their operations in Birmingham, West Midlands, UK . This critical role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of safety across all operational processes within the oil and gas sector. You will play a key part in hazard identification, risk assessment, and the implementation of robust safety management systems to prevent incidents and protect personnel and the environment. Working within a dedicated safety team, you will contribute to a strong safety culture, driving continuous improvement in process safety performance for a leading energy company.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and other risk assessment techniques.
• Develop, implement, and maintain process safety management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry best practices in process engineering .
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs to operational staff.
• Perform safety audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety standards.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proven experience as a Process Safety Engineer in the oil and gas industry.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., COMAH) and standards (e.g., API, IOGP).
• Experience with risk assessment methodologies and SIL analysis.
• Strong understanding of process safety principles, including LOPA, SIL, and PSM elements.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
